DSH Payments

Date:
October 1, 2011
Summary:

Under Medicaid states are required to make DSH adjustments to payment rates to hospitals treating large numbers of low income and Medicaid patients.  The PPACA reduces state DSH allotments except for Hawaii, once a state's uninsurance rate decreases.  The law prescribes allotment reduction requirements for subsequent fiscal years.  The law also revises DSH allotment for Hawaii for the last three quarters of FY2012 and 2013 and succeeding fiscal years.
